1.Introduction
1.1. North Carolina General Statute section 116-143 authorizes the Board of Governors (BOG) to provide a waiver of tuition and fees for faculty and staff under certain conditions. The BOG exercised that authority and delegated to the president the authority to issue regulations to implement the waiver of tuition and fees. UNC 1000.2.2.1[R] – Regulation on the Waiver of Tuition and Fees for Faculty and Staff permits each institution to establish a tuition and fee waiver policy. This policy is established under that authority.
2.Purpose
2.1. Tuition Waiver
2.1.1. NC State permits the waiver of tuition for eligible full-time faculty and staff for up to three courses per year as set forth in more detail in the companion regulation, NCSU REG 07.55.08 – Tuition Waiver for Faculty and Staff – Procedures, provided that such enrollment does not interfere with the employee’s normal employment obligations.
2.1.2. Notwithstanding 2.1.1 above and as set forth in UNC 1000.2.2.1[R], law enforcement officers may enroll in an unlimited number of courses per academic year subject to approval by the officer’s campus police chief or director of campus safety and security (and enrollment in courses by the campus police chief or director of campus safety and security is subject to approval by the chief’s or director’s immediate supervisor).
2.2. Fees and Fee Waiver
2.2.1. In addition to the tuition waiver, NC State also permits the waiver of the corresponding required fees, including the education and technology fee and school fee, for eligible faculty and staff.
2.2.2. The waiver of fees does not include other charges such as special course fees, program fees, study abroad program costs and fees, College of Engineering Program Enhancement Fee, Professional Golf Management Fee, application fees, late registration fees, withdrawal fees, charges related to liquidation of indebtedness, or miscellaneous service charges.
