1. INTRODUCTION

1.1  R. A. and Mildred Lancaster established the Alton and Mildred Lancaster Professorship in the College of Engineering at NC State University.  This rule describes the procedure to award this professorship and is in agreement with the terms of the endowment.

2.  PROCEDURE

2.1  The Dean will appoint a selection committee consisting of tenured NC State faculty members with the majority being Professors of Distinction.

2.2  The committee will recommend a recipient to the Dean based on the applicable criteria set forth in NCSU REG05.20.17 – Professorships of Distinction.  Recommendation of the nominee is decided by majority vote of the committee.

2.3  The income from this endowment may be used for partial salary support and/or research funding for the named professor.  The allocation of salary and research support will be determined by the department head in consultation with the named professor.

2.4  If the incumbent retires, resigns, or takes different responsibilities, a new Lancaster Professor will be selected.  Recipients must be tenured/tenured track faculty and can be an assistant, associate or full professor.  Appointments will be for five years and may be renewable.

2.5  The Dean will inform the Chancellor and Provost of the award.
