1. INTRODUCTION

The R.J. Reynolds Professorship established by the R.J. Reynolds Corporation for the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department is reserved for the head of the department This rule describes the procedure to award this professorship and is in agreement with the terms of the endowment.

2. PROCEDURE

2.1. The Dean will appoint a selection committee consisting of five tenured NC State faculty members with the majority being Professors of Distinction.

2.2. The committee will recommend a recipient to the Dean based on University guidelines (REG05.20.17) for Professors of Distinction.

2.3. The income from this endowment may be used for partial salary support for the department head in concurrence with the Dean of Engineering, provide funding for faculty and student recruitment, professional development, research materials, travel and meal expenses, and scholarly publications.

2.4. If the incumbent retires, resigns or takes different responsibilities in the department, college or university, the professorship and funds associated with the professorship will be relinquished.

2.5. The Dean will inform the Chancellor and Provost of the award.
