1. INTRODUCTION
The Clark family established the Walter Clark Professorship for the Department of Industrial Engineering at NC State University. The name of the department was later changed to Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. This rule describes the procedure to award this professorship and is in agreement with the terms of the endowment.
2. PROCEDURE
2.1. The Department Head will appoint a selection committee consisting of at least three tenured NC State faculty members who are full professors with the majority being Professors of Distinction.
2.2. Full professors with a full time appointment working in some area of research in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering may be considered for this award.
2.3. The committee will recommend a recipient to the Dean based on the applicable criteria set forth in NCSU REG05.20.17 – Professorships of Distinction. Recommendation of the nominee is decided by majority vote of the committee.
2.4. Upon the Dean’s approval, the Head will notify the faculty member of the appointment.
2.5. The income from this endowment may be used for partial salary support and/or research funding for the named professor. The allocation of salary and research support will be determined by the department head in consultation with the named professor.
2.6. If the incumbent retires, resigns or takes different responsibilities in the department, college or university, the professorship and funds associated with the professorship will be relinquished.
2.7. The Dean will inform the Chancellor and Provost of the award.
