1. INTRODUCTION

This rule covers the College of Textiles named professorships: Cannon, Ciba-Geigy, and INVISTA. This rule describes the procedure to award these professorships and is in agreement with the terms of the endowments.

2. PROCEDURE

2.1 The Dean of the College of Textiles in consultation with the Heads of the academic departments in the college will appoint a selection committee consisting of at least three tenured NC State faculty members who are full professors with the majority being Professors of Distinction as defined in NCSU REG05.20.17 – Professorships of Distinction.  The committee should include representation of the professorship’s discipline.

2.2 Full professors with a full-time appointment working in the relevant area of the named professorship are eligible as are candidates for full professor who accept full-time employment in the college.  In rare instances full-time faculty with the rank of associate professor are eligible.

2.3 The committee will recommend a recipient to the Dean based on the applicable criteria set forth in NCSU REG05.20.17 – Professorships of Distinction and the terms of the endowment.  Recommendation of the nominee is decided by majority of the committee.

2.4 The income from the endowment may be used for partial salary support and discretionary support.  The amounts allocated to salary and discretionary support will be determined by the Dean and the Executive Director of the North Carolina Textile Foundation.

2.5 If the incumbent separates from employment, the funds from this endowment can be used for the recruitment or awarding of a new named professor.

2.6 The Dean will inform the Chancellor and Provost of the award.
