1. INTRODUCTION

This rule describes the post tenure review standards and procedures of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) for post-tenure review of faculty.  It supplements NC State University’s Academic Tenure Policy and Regulation on Post Tenure Review of Faculty.  To the extent there is any inconsistency, the Academic Tenure Policy and Post Tenure Review Regulation supersede this rule.  This rule applies to 2 faculty members who have tenure in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) Division of Academic Affairs and who also have an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).  The Assistant Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies is responsible for assuring that the procedures set forth in NCSU REG05.20.04 – Post Tenure Review of Faculty and this Rule are followed.

2. POST TENURE REVIEW COMMITTEE (PTRC)

2.1 The formation of a Post Tenure Review Committee will be determined by the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of the individual faculty member under review.

2.2 The PTRC will consist of no fewer than 4 members, with at least one tenured faculty member from the relevant interdisciplinary program.

2.3 The Assistant Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies will appoint the chair of the committee from among its 4 members.

2.4 The Post-Tenure Review Committee will meet and complete its deliberations in time to submit its written assessments of faculty who are subject to PTR by April 30.  The Chair of the PTR committee is responsible for scheduling its meetings and sending the final written report to the Assistant Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies and to the faculty members reviewed.

3. DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED TO THE PTRC

The documentation provided for a Post Tenure Review is set forth in section 5.2 of NCSU REG05.20.04 – Post Tenure Review of Faculty.

4. ADDITIONAL PROCEDURES REQUIRED BY DEPARTMENT

The Assistant Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies will attend all meetings of the PTRC to answer questions and provide information about the process but may not vote.

5.  PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

5.1 Standards for Associate Professor

The review of Associate Professors is to provide a comprehensive, cumulative assessment to determine whether the tenured faculty member meets or does not meet the performance standards for the realms of responsibility described in the Statement of Faculty Responsibilities at the Associate Professor standard as set forth in the CHASS RPT Rule.

5.2 Standards for Professor

The review of Professors is to provide a comprehensive, cumulative assessment to determine whether the tenured faculty member meets or does not meet the performance standards for the realms of responsibility described in the Statement of Faculty Responsibilities at the Professor standard as set forth in the CHASS RPT Rule.
